BBQ50 Joins Marketplace at Avalon Park Food Hall

Local Resident, Dan Ashby, Signs First Food Bay Agreement

Orlando, FL (March 18, 2020) – Marketplace at Avalon Park is pleased to announce that BBQ50 has just finalized an agreement with the Marketplace at Avalon Park food hall, scheduled to open Summer 2020.

BBQ50 is owned and operated by Avalon Park resident, Dan Ashby.  Dan and his family moved to Avalon Park in 2002 and after many years of perfecting his barbeque technique at community picnics and events, he started catering from his home.  The BBQ50 brand quickly grew and has now reached a level which requires a permanent location.

“Dan has built somewhat of a cult following with friends and neighbors, including my family,” says Mara Hunt, Marketplace at Avalon Park. “His expansion into Marketplace is the epitome of what the Avalon Park Community is all about:  Live, Learn, Work & Play!”

The menu at BBQ50 is a culmination of family recipes compiled over the past 100 years, from several generations of Ashby family members. The rubs and meats are prepared the same way Dan’s grandfather, Bob, cooked them over 100 years ago.  The southern-style sides come from a combination of Dan’s Grandmother Barbara, “GrandAshby,” and his Uncle Jimmy’s cookbooks. Straight from eastern Kentucky in the Appalachian mountains, GrandAshby always said that, “…if you aren’t adding love and patience to each dish, then you aren’t cooking my way!”

“I love that I have the opportunity to share a legacy of amazing BBQ with the community I call home,” says Dan.  “I am continuing the family tradition by setting up several pop-up shops with my son and offering catering options before we open the permanent location.”
