Avalon Park Group to Open Second Charter School in East Orange County by 2016

Group Partners with Academica for 6-12 Charter High School

Avalon Park, Fla. (May 18, 2015) – To address the overcrowding of schools in Avalon Park, a second charter school will be built in the east Orange County community by 2016.

In partnership with Academica, Avalon Park Group will be opening a charter school for grades 6-12 with an anticipated enrollment of 1,400 students. This is in addition to the previously announced charter school for grades k-8 STEAM school, which will enroll 1,400 students.

“Quality schools are important to our residents and partnering with a company like Academica, which has a proven track record of success, addresses a critical need as our community continues to grow,” says Beat Kahli, president & CEO, Avalon Park Group. “By next school year, Avalon Park will provide the highest quality of education anywhere in the region.”

Academica operates more than 100 charter schools across the country. Last month, U.S. News & World Report named its International Studies Charter School the top high school in Florida and the No. 4 charter school in the country.

Currently, Timber Creek High School is more than 1,500 students over capacity. Plus, the relief school for Avalon Middle School is not scheduled to open until 2017 at the earliest.

When complete, the new school will be located at the corner of Avalon Lake Drive and Avalon Park East Boulevard in the center of Avalon Park. It will include a gymnasium.
